Gracious Hospitality Between Jerez and Seville
"Gracious Hospitality Located Between Jerez and Seville" - Reviewed by Lisa
Can’t decide whether to stay in Seville or Jerez? Well, how about right between the two?
Enjoy all the wonders the region has to offer and whilst you’re at it, take the glorious back road to Ronda, twist and turn through unspoilt miles of undulating farmland, olive groves and sunflowers.
Hacienda de San Rafael is perfectly positioned to help you become better acquainted with the intriguing western side of Andalucía. That is, if you can tear yourself away from the pool, gardens and shady surroundings.
Gentrified living at a more gracious pace – while being surrounded by sophisticated country pursuits – is easily attained at this noble Cortijo.
Your arrival heralds a warm welcome from the owner or the friendly staff, including a welcome drink and a tour of the property. You will smile at the great good fortune bestowed upon you at finding this idyllic spot which was originally part of a thriving olive plantation.
Deluxe suites are located on either side of the central open courtyard. A covered terrace – where you’ll be delighted to find a wake-up coffee or tea tray placed each morning – runs in front.
The main house is bathed in countryside comfort with overstuffed upholstery, antiques, collections and an authentic equestrian theme.
EMPHASIS ON GASTRONOMY
Breakfast is conveniently served outside your own suite door. This is such a lovely feature as shuffling a few feet in robe and slippers will not be frowned upon.
Have lunch poolside or in the shade of the cabana. And dinner under the clear, starry skies of the central courtyard is a romantic’s delight. Dinner is a 3-course set menu with a generous pairing of half a bottle per person.

Each suite makes the ideal hideaway in which to retreat with a good book – along with an aged glass of something highly palatable – to reflect on the joy that life brings when there are such marvelous places to lay your head and relax.
This feels more like the carefully-curated home of a well-travelled friend… everything is in place, but it’s all relaxed with wonderful tales to tell.
The beds are extremely comfy as are the bathroom facilities which are equipped with large tubs and walk-in showers.
A small private patio – resplendent with the ubiquitous Andalucian geraniums – tops off the whole harmonious space.
11 DELUXE BEDROOMS
Each room sleeps 2 – Choice of King, Queen or Twin-size beds. Access to a breakfast verandah. En-suite bathroom with separate tub and shower.
Rustically chic, the casitas lie in a private garden close to the main house and share an infinity pool. Each casita has a large, comfortable bedroom, separate living room and an upper level “siesta” zone. A poolside “chozita” offers guests a comfortable day bed for relaxing or individual dining.
Each casita suite sleeps 2 in a King-size bed and comes with a separate living room and private garden. En-suite bathroom with separate tub and shower.

With a fabled 320 days of Andalucian sunshine, meals are usually taken al fresco.
The pool gardens with bar, cabana and shady olive trees are where you’ll want to spend days relaxing and enjoying the natural sounds of the country.
Inclement weather provides the ideal excuse to meander into the main home, curl in front of the fire with a magazine, play board games or just indulge your imagination in thoughts of the Hacienda of centuries past.
You’ll be stimulated by the pristine collections, photos and memorabilia of yesteryear.
