What do we all look for when taking a vacation – experiencing interesting places, savouring unusual flavours, meeting new friends and embracing different cultures. And the best way to achieve all these new destination goals is through food. As a local I’m happy to share my favourite spots and best restaurants in Bucerias, and hope you have the chance to give some of them a try.
Miguel Carvalho, founder of Punta de Mita-Rentals and Tripwix Vacation Rentals spent twenty years as Food and Beverage Director with five star hotel chains like Four Seasons Hotels, Hyatt and Mandarin Oriental. Miguel is a long-term Punta Mita resident with a passion for pursuing the best that Punta de Mita area restaurants have to offer.
As a food (and wine….and tequila) lover my philosophy has always been about trying as many authentic flavours as possible, price should not dictate quality, nor taste tingling experiences, any good cook or chef can deliver an unforgettable experience, but they do need to be good!
Happily for us locals, Bucerias and Bahia de Banderas area is served by an excellent choice of restaurants showcasing the best of Mexican and International flavours from fine dining to street grab n go grub.
My favourite choice however is opting for a local cook or chef bring the local flavours to you – in villa/home dining is an excellent and affordable way to enjoy that fish you caught today or design your own culinary experiences ( with and without Mexican wine and Tequila pairings)

Best French Food in Punta de Mita area, Bucerias
Le Bistro
This tiny Bucerias restaurant is another local go to. An authentic French bistro run by a husband-and-wife duo really delivers on all levels. I order the Foie Gras pate to take home and serve at dinner parties, velvety, smooth and definitely the real deal, it wows every time. Dining at the restaurant I’m always spoilt for choice and cannot say there is a bad plate on the menu. An intimate restaurant with a BYOB policy it’s well worth the drive if French food floats your boat.

Best Mexican Taco Experience
Tacos on the street- La Cruz de Huanacaxtle
Hidden in a back street of the quaint nearby village of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle this is the place to eat authentic Mexican tacos, washed down with a couple of cold ones you’ll always make new friends at this “on the street” local hangout.

Best Meat Lovers Restaurant
Meet Meat, Bucerias
As close to a big city dining experience as you’ll get in the area, the swanky urban rooftop space does not fail to deliver a huge WOW! In terms of location the views across the Bay to Vallarta and up to Mita are exceptional, the service has been faultless to date and the extensive menu does not disappoint whatever you order. As the name infers this is a speciality meat restaurant but Mexican cuts are as tender and flavourful as their International counterparts. Sides are abundant and for non-meat eaters there are pasta to fresh fish options all as tasty as each other.
A well-priced and varied wine list rounds out the excellent experience. Not to mention some exciting dessert options

Mina, Punta de Mita
A good restaurant for me is one that delivers consistent greatness through the freshest products, ambience, service, and flavour. In all the years Mina (used to be Si Senor) has been open, it had never failed to deliver the freshest fish, (TRY catch of the day arriero style) interesting ingredient combinations and a great nod to Mexican cultural design
