6 Sexy Ideas for a Romantic St. Valentine’s Day Getaway

The Pacific Coast of Mexico offers limitless virgin sandy beaches, unforgettable sunsets, and private places just waiting to transport you into romance mood. Whether dining al fresco with a lobster and champagne picnic under the stars or being seduced by the strains of a mariachi serenade in a historic building – the options for expressing love and romance are too numerous to describe.

The Pacific coast is for lovers. Here are a few ideas to enjoy it at its most sultry.

1. Rent A Boat and Sail Away to Distant Shores.
Just imagine the sun on your back, the wind in your hair, sea spray and the sound of champagne corks popping. What could be better than taking to the ocean for a day of romance, reconnecting and basking in the natural wonders that the Bay of Banderas has to offer!

A recent adventure to the other side of the bay in a magnificent 70ft catamaran left us in high spirits. The crew was flawless – always on hand to serve another cold drink or offer up a gourmet snack – but discreet enough to give us our space and let us languish in luxury. This boat is a real treat and guaranteed to up the romance quota to a new high.

For those who want something a little smaller and more low-key, there are multiple options of fine sailing and motor craft, all with great crews, and food and beverage packages.

2. Picnic On A Pristine Beach
Nothing creates more of a romantic image than a private picnic for two in a secluded spot far from the rigors of the real world. Escape with your loved one, picnic hamper in hand, for an unforgettable experience in a forgotten place. Journey to a far-flung beach on a luxury yacht or motor out in a panga, drop anchor and proceed ashore for a spot of picnic fantasy.

If that sounds too much like hard work, jump in the car or take the golf cart to a deserted spot and lay out a gourmet picnic prepared by private chefs in your chosen locale. On a recent foray to a lovely secret spot, we even experienced a “professional picnic person” who went ahead, cleared the sand, set the tablecloth and china, filled the ice bucket and generally “perfected” perfection!

3. Go for a Couple’s Massage
Renting a luxury home often means not wanting to leave the comfort of that home. Beach days, spa days, excursions and adventures are all well and good, but sometimes not straying far from the comforts of your new home are the only way to go. And what could be more romantic that choosing a nice secluded, breezy spot for a romantic massage for two! With super-discreet, professional masseuses on hand to leave you feeling relaxed, invigorated and cosseted. Soft music in the background or the sounds of nature; either will leave you feeling ready for romance.

4. Take a Sunset Cruise
Pacific sunsets = fiery skies in tones of pink, purple and orange, turquoise and indigo…..too many colours to name… many too delicate to own a name. Every night, almost without fail, the magnificent sunsets over Punta Mita and surrounding areas are a love affair in themselves. These natural wonders always seem even more enchanting from the bows of a boat with a cold glass of something delicious in hand. Really, what could be more romantic than watching the sun sail over the horizon, hand in hand with your loved one on the deck of a gently moving yacht!

5. Gallop Off into the Sunset
If the high seas are not your cup of tea and the appeal of a quiet horseback ride through the jungle down to the beach is more in keeping with your own special brand of romance, then look no further than a guided tour for two in the saddle, courtesy of Vista Paraiso Ranch.

Leave the ranch and wend your way through lush jungle vegetation, take in the natural vistas surrounding you and your loved one and arrive on the beach in time to enjoy the setting sun. As the sky lights up with vibrant colours, the breeze picks up and makes the perfect companion for a sunset gallop or quiet meander along miles of golden sands on Litibu beach. Hand in hand, this will be a St. Valentine’s not to forget.

6. Dinner for Two at Sunset
Pack that special outfit and plan on watching the effects it has as you and your loved one head out for an evening of wine and roses. Tables for two in the sand, tables with a sunset view, tables in special locations, in restaurants or at home with a private chef. Whatever your choice, an evening of wine, candle light and romance is always one to be remembered and cherished.

My recommended restaurants for a special evening are:

  • Carolina Fine Dining, St Regis Hotel, Punta Mita. Ask for a table on the terrace to catch the sunset.
  • Casa Kimberly, Puerto Vallarta for some magical Mariachi music.
