Visit San Sebastián del Oeste
"A magical town with a fascinating past." - Reviewed by Lisa
Not far from the golden playas of the coast are the cooler, colonial mountain pueblos. A trip not far from the hustle and bustle of the glamourous beachside resort delivers you into another time and era.
Just the name of the town made us want to go there! Located at the foot of the Western Sierra Madre in West Jalisco, San Sebastian del Oeste (Saint Sebastian of the West) made us reminisce about old Mexico, the Wild West, cowboys and haciendas. In reality, this Magical Town was once, in the 1700’s, an important mining city with over 20,000 residents. The population today currently hovers around 600.
San Sebastian preserves the memories of good times past – the charm and tranquility of a bygone age. It boasts many natural destinations for the curious adventurer. Visit the local raicilla distillery (a liquor similar to moonshine but made from agave). Abundant restaurants and local produce shops selling organic coffee, silver artisans, traditional bakers and artwork, will complete your excursion.

Attire: Due to its altitude, San Sebastián is much cooler than the coastal regions. Be sure to bring warm clothing and a sweater or jacket.
