MARCH
Carnival
For 2019, Carnival in Portugal falls on the days leading up to March 5th (Shrove Tuesday). Celebrations and processions are particularly vibrant in Lisbon and in the Algarve.
APRIL
Óbidos International Chocolate Festival
Dates for 2019 have yet to be confirmed at time of writing. The festival usually takes place from Thursday to Sunday for two weeks mid April. Dates may be affected this year by Easter falling later in the year.
Easter and Passover
The two weeks around Easter are a big event in Portugal, traditionally a majority Catholic country. Expect processions and Christian themed festivities.
JUNE
Festas de Lisboa
A series of festivals throughout June with celebrations peaking on St. Anthony’s Day on June 12-13.
Rock in Rio
Outdoor rock concerts on the last two weekends of June.
JULY
Óbidos Medieval Festival
From mid July to the early August, Óbidos transforms into a Medieval flurry of stalls and events.

Portimão Sardine Festival
During the first week of August, the aroma of fresh grilled sardines fills the streets throughout the quaint habour town of Portimão in the Algarve,
SEPTEMBER / OCTOBER
Vendimia
Grape harvest is the perfect time to visit Portugal for wine lovers. Depending on the weather conditions earlier in the year, the vendimia usually occurs around late September / October time. Includes grape picking among the vines, treading the grapes, fermentation, clarification, aging and bottling.
