Banderas Bay has long been a hit with highflying jet-setters looking for luxury experiences. Since the days when Hollywood’s first power couple Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton graced the streets of Puerto Vallarta to more recent times when the likes of Bill Gates and fellow Fortune 500 CEOs set up vacation homes and residences in the area, Banderas Bay has been (and still is) a honeypot for first-class getaways. However, what many people don’t fully understand are the distinct destinations that make up Banderas Bay.

Here’s our Tripwix guide to understanding Banderas Bay.

Geographically, Banderas Bay refers to the region that stretches from Punta de Mita to Cabo Corrientes, embracing La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Riviera Nayarit (Nuevo Vallarta), Puerto Vallarta and Mismaloya among other towns and villages along the way. However, for destination marketing purposes it often encompasses the towns of Sayulita and San Pancho to the north.
